Wellness Wednesday Tip: Perspective

“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” –Christopher Reeve. No matter what our circumstance is our perspective plays a major role in wellness. At times individuals with developmental, physical and intellectual disabilities are faced with many adversities that they overcome by using an optimistic attitude. I am blessed to have been therapeutically aligned with many of these individuals. March is National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. This weeks wellness tip is to focus on the lesson not the issue. Identify one issue or problem from the week and find the silver lining. Focus on adjusting your thoughts about the matter and moving forward in a positive space. Feeling ambitious, mindfully focus on changing your perspective for one week. When you get upset ask yourself if the problem you are facing today will matter in 10 years. If you identify a problem during the week spend time looking for the positive aspect of the situation. Remind yourself that one mistake isn’t going to ruin your life. Reassure yourself that one awkward encounter, late appointment or conflict with your family/friend will be overcome. Use your perspective to help drive your feelings of wellness. If you feel like you have been struggling to manage a positive perspective and can benefit from working towards change please contact us at Discovering Balance. I wish you a week filled with balance and joy!
